How easy is it to learn?

Great tool. Very comfort and helpful

Helen_Mazur 17:40 Feb 17, 2016. I used this tool above year and be cool with it. Program is constant in progress and getting better. I'm using it for freelance translation and can tell that this tool easy in use and have a lot of free helpful option. Machine translation is paid, but not expansive. Quality of this translation is not excellent, but, hey, where did you see great machine translation? It's just a help instrument, and it's more better Google translate(for example). I really recommend SmartCat. Just try!

Sofia Gutkin 08:31 Feb 18, 2016. I've been using SmartCAT regularly for translating, since it is free and has been easy to pick up and start using. The program is straight-forward and would be a good option for someone just starting out.

The downsides that I've noticed are: it can take a long time to upload a document, you have to 'accept' each segment to save it (click on the green tick), and if you go too quickly, the program can't keep up, you can't download a half-finished translation.

Kirill Ivanov 17:27 Feb 17, 2016. SmartCAT turned out to be a very easy to learn and really convenient tool compatible with a wide range of file formats. Being web-based it works equally fine on Mac and PC.

Advantages:
- free (but for machine translation and text recognition);
- easy TM and glossary export/import;
- detailed project statistics;
- responsive and helpful support service.

Disadvantages:
- TM cells are displayed incorrectly in some browsers (now using Yandex Browser).

Прежде чем полностью перейти на платформу SmartCAT я попробовала несколько разных – не буду здесь афишировать – довольно сильных англоязычных систем, включающих в себя не только программы непосредственно перевода, но и предварительную подготовку текстов и пост-обработку. Скажу сразу, что мой сектор переводов очень узкий – итальяно-русский. В отличие от испанского, французского, ну и естественно, английского, итальянский язык никогда не был международным по понятным причинам: на нем говорит всего одна страна – Италия и кусочек итальянской Швейцарии. Поэтому раньше всегда была проблема со словарями (специализированных словарей нет и сегодня), а теперь, естественно, возникла проблема с CAT- программами. Практически все они заточены на язык первого уровня, то есть на свой, английский и любой парный ему язык перевода. У меня же получается языковая пара всегда второго уровня. Поэтому, перепробовав некоторое количество CAT-программ, в первую очередь Trados, могу сказать что они отлично работают на пару первого уровня, то есть англо-итальянский перевод, или англо-русский, но для пары русско-итальянского перевода на сегодняшний день аналогов ABBYY Smart CAT просто нет.
Есть, к примеру, попытки в одном из итальянских университетов сделать аналогичную программу, но ребята, у них и в отдаленном приближении нет такого мощного программного обеспечения, которое заложено в ABBYY Smart CAT физтехом. Лингвисты видят только результат, а у меня первое образование – матфизика, поэтому программистам из Физтеха я доверяю слепо и безоговорочно.Безусловно, у этой программы большое будущее.
