عربي إلى أنجليزي القانون/براءات الاختراع القانون: العقود
In a marriage contract,
وجرى العقد من ولي المرأة وليها الأقرب شرعاً أخوها السيد فلان بما له من الولاية الشرعية وذلك بالإيجاب على محكم كتاب الله تعالى.

Any suggestions on how to translate جرى in this context? Thanks.

From your saying “my parents do approve of this marriage but are not aware we actually had nikah” it may be understood that your wali was not present at the nikaah and that his representative was not present either. If that is the case then the marriage contract is not valid, and you have to repeat the marriage contract in the presence of the wali and two witnesses.

The translation "Signed" is not good as it is not necessary for the validity of a contract that it must be in writing. A verbal contract is as valid a the one in writing, therefore, the best legal term of it is "concluded" (conclusion of contract) (Note: The translator is a professor of law)
