ليس باليد حيلة

Depending on my understanding of the idiom at the link below, I think that this is the best Arabic equivalent idiom.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Many thanks to all those who contributed. This was a very difficult choice because there were so many wonderfully colloquial offerings. Everyone did an outstanding job. You all deserve the Kudos. Please understand that the final choice was based solely on the context for which I need the expression, not on its being better than any of the others posted. ما شآ الله! - إن شاء الله! - ممتاز! - سكرا برت Brett "

"haathi duniya" or (in a more-religious context) maa shaa' Allah wa kaan

"haathi hiya al-duniya"

or

(in a more-religious context) "maa shaa' Allah wa kaan..."

Tthe full expression is:

" maa shaa' Allah wa kaan, wa maa lam yeshaa' lan yakoon"

There are few more colloquial expressions, but some utterances apply specifically to certain circumstances or events.

Hope this helps. Khair, in shaa' Allah.

Regards,

Stephen H. Franke

neutral Tamer Aly (X) : but this is not technically an idiom, is it? :)

Not an idiom, why is why I added that conditioner of the religious context of that evocation. FWIW, curiosity why the requestor seeks that utterance in so many renditions.

لا يبقى شيء على حال

There are too many Arabic idioms into which we can translate the abovementioned ones, depending on the context. I'll mention some of them, and let other members agree on what they think is best :-)

لا يبقى شيء على حال

وما اليوم إلا مثل أمس الذي مضى

إن مع اليوم غدا يا مسعدة

الأيام دول

هى الدنيا كده - بالعامية المصرية

عش رجبا ترى عجبا

دع الأيام تفعل ما تشاء وطب نفسا بما حكم القضاء

كل رأس به صُداع

هذه هي الحياة

Very Simple.
c'est la vie = هذه هي الحياة

There are other expressions but they are somewhat misleading.
