a friend asked me for an Egg Nog recipe and I recommended that he consult Google. He found a real treasure, to wit: "Basic vielseitig Nog / 6 getrennt / 1 Tasse Zucker / 1 1/2 Quarz dicken Creme, 1 1/4 Becher Whiskey, Weinbrand oder Rum / Bindestrich von Zimt oder Muskat / Beat Eigelb und Zucker zusammen, bis sie sinnlose (oder Zitrone - farbig). Nancy, sorry but it is really impossible to explain that hilarious translation. Happy New Year nevertheless! (Have an Egg Nog to celebrate and maybe, just maybe, you'll get the essence of it). | | | don't drink and cook! | Dec 29, 2007 |

Not sure if it has circulated here already, but I find it wonderful...Here it is: Christmas Fruit Cake Ingredients: 1 cup water 2 cups dried fruit 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup sugar 1tsp salt 8 oz nuts 4 large eggs 1tsp baking soda juice of 1 lemon 1 bottle of whisky Method: Sample whisky to check its quality. Take a large bowl. Re-check the whisky to ensure it is of the highest quality. Pour one level cup and drink. Turn on the electric mixer, beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add one teaspoon of sugar and beat again. Make sure the whisky is still okay and try another tup. Turn off the mixerer. Break two eggs and add to the bowl and chuck in the dried fruit. Mix on the turner, and if the fried druit gets stuck in the beaterers, pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the whisky to check for tonisticity. Next sift the lemon juice and strain your nuts. Add one table. Spoon. Of sugar or something. Whatever you can find. Then grease the oven and turn the cake tin to 350 degrees. Don’t forget to beat off the turner. Throw the bowl out the window, check the whisky again and go to bed. ▲ Collapse | | | Do as you are done by ... | Dec 29, 2007 |
NancyLynn wrote: For those of us who are Germanically-challenged... It is obviously an MT translation, so I MT'd it back into English: "BASIC versatile Nog / 6 separated / 1 cup sugar / 1 1/2 quartz of thick cream, 1 1/4 cups of Whiskey, brandy or rum / hyphen of cinnamon or nutmeg / beat yoke and sugar together, till them senseless (or lemon - colored). Taking land out of productive use, while you are beating the egg white stiffly, followed by some hard beaten cream. Tipper and all this into the bow together with your choice of alcohol. Then chill out". Anyone for hyphen of cinnamon? As always with MT, some of the flair of the original is lost. The phrase "Beat Eigelb", for example, looks in German as if it is referring to a musical rhythm ("beat"). and the hard beaten cream in German sounds as if it has been thoroughly duffed up with fists and boots. Time to take the advice in the last 3 words of the recipe sent by "unadiluna".
