I have this problem now. One of my clients asked me to convert an xliff file to an xlf fie. They say many Trados users can export the former to xlf file, which is one of the export options of Trados, so that the converted xlf file can be imported MemoQ. To note, however, I don’t have and use MemoQ. Is there anybody who knows this file conversion procedure? If so, tell it to me, please. TXS a lot in advance. | | | esperantisto Local time: 11:04 عضو (2006) أنجليزي إلى روسي + ... مترجم الموقع
XLIFF is a file format (it can be of some variations). XLF is one of possible file name extensions of this format. So, no conversion is needed. This should work by simply renaming the file (or more precisely the file extension). That's how I do it for one of my clients: The client works with memoQ, I work with SDL Studio 2011*. My client sends the file with the extension .mqxliff, I rename it to .xlf, open it in Studio and after translation save it as usual. Then I rename it again from .xlf to .mqxliff so that my client can process it in memoQ. *For Studio 2014/2015 this might be different, possibly easier. ... I think in Studio 2015 you can simply open the .mqxliff file in Studio, and for Studio 2014 you can simply open it after installing the necessary memoQ file type definition. ▲ Collapse | | | Katsushi Saito اليابان Local time: 17:04 عضو (2012) أنجليزي إلى ياباني + ... بادئ الموضوع Thanks a lot. | Apr 7, 2016 |
To: esperantisto [1] Thanks a lot. Oh, it is that simple. But, I wonder why my client asked me to convert an xliff file to xlf file? For your information, this person is not Trados user and seems to be MemoQ user. That is why he asked me to do this conversion? I am still puzzled. Hmm… To: Thomas Pfann [2] Thanks a lot anyway. But, I wonder why my client did not simply change the file extension to .xlf and asked me to do file conversion instead? This is enigma, I think. | |

memoQ takes different extensions | Apr 7, 2016 |
The key fact here is that XLIFF is a standard format. While different CAT tools have extensions that only affect their internal workings, any XLIFF file can be opened in memoQ, the same way memoQ's MQXLIFF files can be opened in other tools. memoQ opens XLIFF files with the extensions *.xlf, *.xlif, and *.xliff, but you can also import XLIFF files with other extensions (for instance, MemSource's *.mxliff files) by simply selecting "All files (*.*)" as the file type when importing a ... That does it! When you export the finished file with "Export (dialog)" in memoQ, the resulting file has the same extension and can be imported in its original CAT tool. ▲ Collapse | | | Katsushi Saito اليابان Local time: 17:04 عضو (2012) أنجليزي إلى ياباني + ... بادئ الموضوع Thanks a lot. | Apr 7, 2016 |
