After I'd had a good cup of hot tea! The moral of the story - "Drink lots of tea and you'll get lots of work done."

Late afternoon Feb 3, 2015

As I said before several times (this is one of those repeated polls): As I am a late owl, the most productive time for me in general is mid-afternoon/evening, but it really depends on a lot of factors: quality of my sleep the night before, job deadline, complexity of the document, familiarity with the subject matter...

Tea and insomnia Feb 3, 2015

That is my policy, too, although I find that as I advance in years, too much tea drinking stops me from sleeping, which then negatively affects my productivity the next day.

I asked this question Feb 3, 2015

because before I stared as a freelancer my best time would be the morning. Now it is the night. I don't like that but I haven't got a choice, as during the day I constantly have to reply to emails so can't keep a good "flow".

The same goes for me Feb 3, 2015

I find that after starting early morning, I have a couple of mugs of hot tea for breakfast, and then I can work through to lunch-time (in Spain at about 2:00 pm) and then 2 more mugs of my favourite brew and I can continue till dinner (about 8:30 pm) and if the deadline is tight, I can continue till late at night. Drinking tea does not affect my sleep, at all.

Regards to all,

Nigel

After the kids go to bed... Feb 3, 2015

I used to prefer early morning, but now working at home with toddler twins is difficult, even having grandma taking care of them. So after they go to bed is when I can really get loads of work done, the phone will not interrupt and there's absolute silence in the house.

Morning and evening Feb 3, 2015

I can start almost as soon as I'm out of bed, say 7.30 or 8 and things flow well - helped along by a cup of tea mid-morning - until lunchtime, which may be as late at 2.30. After lunch (plus a power-nap, sometimes) I FEEL clear-headed enough but my word-count drops drastically; between about 6 and 9 I'm good for nothing but then build up a new head of steam and can work well from 10 till 1.

Whenever the force is with me Feb 3, 2015

Which tends to be in the morning.

But hey, I thought we were artists, not factory workers, and so wouldn't know/care when we're most productive?

It's useful to know when the force is with you... Feb 3, 2015

The Force is a bit unpredictable in my case.
Late in the day is your best bet.

When clients ask me if I can manage a ridiculously tight deadline, I can sometimes do it at certain times of day, and at others it is best to suggest they find someone else.

These days, if I have a deadline before 11 am, I make sure the job is ready to be sent off, if not actually in the client's mail, before I go to bed. I have always been a night owl by choice, and a couple of early m

These days, if I have a deadline before 11 am, I make sure the job is ready to be sent off, if not actually in the client's mail, before I go to bed. I have always been a night owl by choice, and a couple of early mornings recently knocked me out completely the next day. (4 and 5 am is early for most people, not just me.)

That said, force or no force, if I am hit by one of those uncanny conspiracies of clients who come in threes with urgent mails, enquiries and forgotten snippets that the printer should have had yesterday, then it is counter-productive at any time of day!

it is about mood not time Feb 3, 2015

For me, it is just like "taking off" from the ground like an airplane. After that all comes easy.

What is needed for a "take off"? black tea, picture of my daughter etc. everything that pushes me forward to flying

Early morning Feb 3, 2015

I also like it when it is not likely I will be interrupted and when my mind is clear - for me this is very early morning, around 5-7.30am. Then I do all my dog-walking chores, a bit more work before lunch, nothing in the early afternoon as I will be having a siesta and then ready to go again around 4pm. I never work after 10pm.

During school hours Feb 3, 2015

I do the bulk of my work between 9:30 and 3:00 on weekdays. Outside these hours, I find myself juggling translation with several other functions such as homework consultant, cook, cleaner, taxi driver, counsellor and activities coordinator, and so the word rate is somewhat slower, no matter how much coffee I drink.
