It seems to me that some of our peers are mixing up tight deadlines with small wordcounts.

... But you are right, they are not the same thing, and some clients really do allow time to 'sleep on' the small projects and polish them.

I wish they all did - it makes a big difference to a press release or a website.
Even so, there is a limit to how long most people will wait for 750 words, while they have to accept that 75 000 will take a couple of months at least

Jobs like press releases and letters tend to be urgent - 'breaking news' or troubleshooting, so I have to do the best I can in the few hours available.
