I don't trust anything cloudy. Online storage systems can be subject to things such as outages or hacking. I prefer to keep my stuff within physical reach.

I agree with neilmac. I am probably accessing the cloud all the time without knowing it, but I don't store any of my own documents in the cloud because despite the fluffy name, it isn't a cloud. It's racks of giant servers in big sheds in places we know nothing about (Russia? Tajekistan?) owned by who knows who. All my documents are on my hard drive & in the backups. (I clone my entire HD every day). Plus: you have to pay for cloud storage.

I used Dropbox for a while, but for the reasons already mentioned all my work files are kept on an external hard drive.

Everything on my hard drive is encrypted and automatically uploaded to Carbonite. I understand the need to be wary, but for some reason I trust this particular company.

And also stored on an external hard drive in case of a security breech. This way I always have the latest updates of the file handy.

I do not trust the cloud stuff either. But I have to disagree with the hacker stuff because you data is stored everywhere around the world and not just on one server. And the most storys about hacking were 99% insider jobs from the employees of the providers.
I generally like to have my stuff where I know that I am responsible for its security.

Always both, of course! There is no excuse to have a single copy of any work at all. Not anymore. Now you can sync your local document folders with several clouds and have automatic backups, even if your HD burns! Why would anyone not do that? People only do that until the first time they lose everything. Then the lesson is learned.

All local, mostly encrypted, and backed up to an external (if client doesn't mind). I don't trust cloud since Jennifer Lawrence

My intention is to use OneDrive, which I assume falls under the category of "online," but after some bad experiences missing my latest updates, I have migrated back to local storage, both on my computer and on an external hard drive.
Also, two of my main clients encourage translators to upload long translations to their portal while we're working on them, just in case something happens. I do that when I feel that my work is acceptable enough that it could be used in the event of an ...
