: good wording, except I would use 'observe' rather than 'witness' because it's more commonly used/accepted in this context

That's a good point, but the meaning is a bit different - Observe would refer to actually performing the fast, whereas witness would mean to live to see the month even if the person wasn't able to fast for some reason - thanks for the comment though :)
